Freescale™ Semiconductors
Freescale is a leading global semiconductor company focused on providing embedded processing and connectivity products to large, high-growth markets. We currently focus on providing products to the automotive, networking and wireless communications industries. Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. 6501 William Cannon Drive West, Austin, Texas 78735 Freescale DSPs Families Supported MSC8100 (StarCore) The MSC8100 DSP family offers a “DSP-farm-on-a-chip” level of performance integration. The raw processing power of these highly integrated system-on-a-chip devices enables developers to create next-generation networking products that offer tremendous channel densities while maintaining system flexibility, scalability and upgradeability. As with the other components of the Smart Networks Platform, the ease with which devices in the MSC8100 family can be programmed allows companies to bring new products to market significantly faster, with longer time-in-market and lower development costs. The StarCore SC140 core was designed with C compilation in mind, and the compiler provides efficient code optimization while maintaining optimum code density. Specifically targeted for 3G wireless base stations and delivering up to 6400 MMACS (million multiply accumulates per second at up to 400 MHz, the MSC8126 device is designed to provide the high-speed DSP core needed to drive low cost per voice and data channels with a robust set of development tools, single software for multiple devices and forward-thinking support. Applications/ Markets: 3G Wireless Base stations DSP56300 The DSP56300 is intended as for general-purpose digital signal processing, particularly in multimedia and telecommunication applications, such as videoconferencing and cellular telephony. This family uses a high performance, single clock cycle per instruction engine providing a twofold performance increase over Freescale's popular DSP56000 core family, while retaining code compatibility. Significant architectural enhancements to the DSP56300 core family include a barrel shifter, 24-bit addressing, instruction cache, and DMA. The DSP56301 offers 80/100 MIPS using an internal 80/100 MHz clock at 3.0-3.6 volts. The DSP56300 core family offers a high level of performance in speed and power provided by its rich instruction set and low power dissipation, enabling a new generation of wireless, telecommunications, and multimedia products.
